PREPARATION

  • Pressure cook unpeeled potatoes with little salt until 3 whistles.
  • Remove its skin and mash it finely. Set aside.
  • Now prepare the filling by sauteing onion, chilies, turmeric powder, pepper powder, ginger garlic paste, minced/shredded chicken and curry leaves. Add required salt and keep it aside.(same like samosa/cutlet fillings).
  • Make a small ball with the mashed potatoes and press gently in the middle with your fingers.
  • Now put the fillings in the center and cover the filling with that mashed potato itself.
  • Make round shaped small balls and then give a small press in the middle and shape it like a birds nest. Keep it aside.
  • Prepare an egg batter by beating egg with salt.
  • Dip each potato balls in the egg batter and then coat it with fried/roasted  vermicelli or semiya.
  • Heat oil in a deep bottomed nonstick fry pan and put each semiya covered balls in it carefully.
  • Do not overheat or overcook, as it will make cracks in potato balls.
  • Better fry 2 or 3 potato balls at a time.
  • Drain the excess oil using tissue paper.
  • Serve hot with tomato chutney.
